FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HAMILTON, ON – On November 9 at 7:30pm at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place), the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra presents A Canadian Brass Salute featuring guest artist Canadian Brass. Joey Pietraroia, Conductor-in-Residence at Pacific Opera Victoria and the Victoria Symphony, guest conducts this program honouring Hamilton’s military personnel and their families.

With a discography of over 130 albums and an extensive world-wide touring schedule, Canadian Brass is an important pioneer in bringing brass music to mass audiences everywhere. They have sold well over 2 million albums worldwide and continue to score Billboard chart positions. They have also toured Australia, the Middle East, the Soviet Union and South America. They were the first brass ensemble from the West to perform in the People’s Republic of China as well as the first brass group to take the main stage at Carnegie Hall.

Canadian Brass has a 50-year history that began right here in Hamilton. With the help of HPO’s first Executive Director Betty Webster and patrons Marnie and Larry Paikin, Canadian Brass formed as the resident brass section of the HPO. They were major players in the HPO’s in-school education program in the 1970s. After leaving the orchestra in 1977 Canadian Brass have gone on to have a dynamic career that has earned the distinction of the world’s most famous brass group.

The Regimental Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry are guest artists at this performance which includes pieces selected by Canadian Brass members from their vast repertoire of familiar favourites and virtuosic works. This concert promises to be a noble salute to military personnel and their families ahead of Remembrance Day.
