September marks the launch of the HPO’s 17-18 Season with a Supercrawl performance alongside local band Black Collar Union, a solo recital by Concertmaster Stephen Sitarski and a highly anticipated opening night concert conducted by Music Director Gemma New, featuring guest violinist Martin Chalifour.

HAMILTON, ON – On Saturday, September 9, the HPO heads to Supercrawl for their eighth annual performance. The HPO proudly partners with Black Collar Union, a Hamilton-based hard rock trio delivering hard hitting, riff-driven sound. This three-piece group returns to perform with an ensemble of the HPO following a highly successful HPO Indie Series collaboration last year. Program includes innovative music that pushes traditional boundaries.

On Friday, September 15 the HPO continues its HPO @ the Library Series. This FREE program features HPO musicians and guest artists at the Hamilton Public Library’s Central Branch. Guests are invited to bring a lunch, sit back and enjoy this special solo performance by Concertmaster Stephen Sitarski.

On Friday, September 22 the Seniors’ Talk and Tea series presents Russian Celebrations. In this educational and engaging event guests enjoy a late morning tea and treat, discover the stories behind some of Russia’s most celebrated composers and go behind-the-scenes to an HPO rehearsal in the Great Hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Hosted by HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte.

On Saturday, September 23 Music Director Gemma New kicks off the 17-18 Mainstage Season at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) in Russian Celebrations. Renown violinist and Los Angeles Philharmonic Concertmaster Martin Chalifour makes his Hamilton solo debut in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic yet graceful Violin Concerto, while colourful and energetic works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Borodin round out the program.
