Hamilton, ON – The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) is thrilled to present Home for the Holidays with the Canadian Brass on Saturday, December 19 at 7:30pm at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Led by conductor Scott Terrell, the Canadian Brass reunites with the HPO in this Hamilton holiday tradition featuring popular holiday hits and brass standards including Christmas Time is Here, White Christmas and many more.
The relationship between the Canadian Brass and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra goes back to 1970, when the ensemble was originally founded by musicians of the HPO, including current Canadian Brass member Chuck Daellenbach. With an international reputation as one of the most popular brass ensembles today, the award-winning Canadian Brass have truly earned the distinction of “the world’s most famous brass group.” Their discography of over 130 albums and an extensive world-wide touring schedule, has earned the ensemble great success over the past 40 years including global tours, television appearances and movie music creations. The Canadian Brass have also reached the classical Billboards with popular songs such as Stars & Stripes: Canadian Brass Salute America. The five current members include original member Chuck Daellenbach, Achilles Liarmakopoulos, Bernhard Scully, Chris Coletti and Caleb Hudson.
Aside from their extraordinary musicianship, the Canadian Brass is also known for its great sense of humor and ability to entertain. Throughout their career the Canadian Brass have brought their talents to the big screen with film and television show appearances. The ensemble has performed and appeared on The Tonight Show, Today, Entertainment Tonight, Evening at Pops, Boston Pops, Beverly Sills’ Music around the World and many PBS specials including the classic Sesame Street. Following a very successful career and world travel, the Canadian Brass are looking forward to returning to Hamilton for a performance on their home turf and Hamilton is happy to have them back.
For long-time HPO patron and former HPO Board President, Marnie Paikin, the return of the Canadian Brass sparks fond memories. “It’s great to feel the impact of their music again, to know that they’re still turning on generations of new people to brass music. We feel like proud grandparents! And if we had anything to do with their success, all we did was provide an opportunity and a place, because the Canadian Brass would have been successful wherever they went and whatever they did and we were just lucky they started with us.”
Joining the Canadian Brass and the HPO is conductor Scott Terrell in his HPO debut. Music Director of the Lexington Philharmonic since 2009, Terrell is also on the cover conductor staff of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He maintains a busy schedule of guest conducting that include engagements with the Colorado Symphony, Aspen Music Festival and School and Arizona Opera. Terrell has led with many prestigious international organizations including Opera Colorado, Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Milwaukee Symphony, Aspen Music Festival, Spoleto Festival, Colorado Symphony, Greater Boston Youth Symphony, Amarillo Symphony and El Paso Opera.
