FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October is a busy month for the HPO with several community and ticketed events. Our Brass Quintet is featured at the first HPO mini of 19-20 Season at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Our Mainstage performance Mozart & Mendelssohn is conducted by Music Director Gemma New and features rising star Timothy Chooi as a violin soloist.

HAMILTON, ON – On Friday, October 4 at 12pm our Violin Duo performs at the Hamilton Public Library Central Branch as part of the HPL’s Noon Hour Concerts series. This is a free event.

On Tuesday, October 15 our Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte hosts the first HPO mini of the season at the Art Gallery of Hamilton with a performance by our Brass Quintet. HPO minis bring big sound to unique places as HPO ensembles perform in spaces throughout our community.

On Wednesday, October 16 our Concertmaster Stephen Sitarski is at the Burlington Public Library Central Branch for Music and Wellness: A Personal Perspective. Sitarski performs as well as discusses his personal journey with mental health as a musician. This is a free event.

On Friday, October 18 our Senior’s Talk and Tea series presents Mozart & Mendelssohn. In this educational and engaging program, attendees enjoy light refreshments while learning about the lives and music of the composers featured at our October Mainstage Concert. After a discussion and piano demonstrations lead by our Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte, attendees are invited into the Concert Hall for a sneak peak at an HPO rehearsal.

Also on Friday, October 18 our Brass Duo performs at 12pm at the Hamilton Public Library Central Branch as part of the library’s free Noon Hour Concert series. At 1:30pm the HPO hosts Musical Moments, a new program where we invite individuals with early stage dementia for a customized discussion and musical demonstration with our Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte. At 7:30pm our String Quartet performs with Gary Barwin at McMaster’s L.R. Wilson Hall as part of their Homecoming celebration of the arts.

On Saturday, October 19 Music Director Gemma New conducts Mozart & Mendelssohn at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) featuring Canadian rising star Timothy Chooi performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5. This performance also features the world premiere of Alice Ho’s Silk Road Fantasy, commissioned by the HPO.

On Sunday, October 27 at 2pm HPO performs our Marz Homes Family Concert, The Composer is Dead, at Mohawk College McIntyre Performing Arts Centre. This engaging musical murder-mystery story will delight audiences of all ages with words written by beloved young adult author Lemony Snicket.
