HAMILTON, ON— The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce an additional performance in the Hammer that is sure to keep your head bobbing! You may remember LTtheMonk and your HPO bringing rhythm and rhymes on stage to Ontarians last year at SuperCrawl 2023. This October 9, audiences will witness the champion of ‘NewMonkSwing’ himself, LTtheMonk in tandem with your HPO once more at The Cotton Factory for an orchestral hip-hop fusion co-presented by Sonic Unyon and FRESHUP Fest.
A wordsmith heavily inspired by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Public Enemy, Shakespeare, Dickens, Toni Morrison and more makes LT the perfect partner to bring together hip-hop heads and lovers of the classical. On the importance of the connections between orchestras and hip-hop artists, LT says:
“In our culture, hip-hop has often been considered ‘low art’, while other forms of music such as classical have been regarded as high art. Hip-hop’s impact on society has been oversimplified to one of violence and negativity, leaving out the massively positive societal impacts hip-hop culture has had, and the artistic brilliance that the poets and producers who create rap music have put on record.”
LT invites audiences to experience this combo of “harmonic genius” as it blends with “rhythmic precision” while reminding us all, “that hip-hop still has something to say, and that there is space for different genres to collide and create something beautiful.”
Your Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra believes in all music — the classics, the masterful and the contemporary, both on the MainStage and in the greater Hamilton community. We proudly support this concert with our co-presenter Sonic Unyon and our local partners in music making FRESHUP Fest, OntarioCreates and of course, LTtheMonk at this ‘banger’ of an evening.
To learn more about LTtheMonk, check out his latest album UPTOWN INTERN #333 available for purchase directly from Sonic Unyon, or through all streaming platforms. We hope to see you there on October 9!
