Hamilton, Ontario – Back by popular demand! The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra is thrilled to present Cirque de la Symphonie on Saturday, March 12 at 7:30pm at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Conducted by Music Director Gemma New, this program features acrobats, aerialists, contortionists and strongmen as they take to the stage – or above it – and move to the beautiful sounds of the HPO.
Following sold-out performances worldwide, Cirque de la Symphonie returns to Hamilton with a concert of classical favourites including Tchaikovsky Valse from Sleeping Beauty, excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen including “Les Toreadors,” Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries and many more.
One of the most exciting and promising young conductors, Gemma New, was announced as the HPO’s newest Music Director in 2015, and is also Associate Conductor at the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and founder/director of the Lunar Ensemble, a new music collective based in Baltimore, Maryland. In the 2014-15 Season she was the recipient of the prestigious Dudamel Fellowship with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Cirque de la Symphonie features the greatest hits of music from classic and well-loved ballets as well as the symphonic world. Single tickets for Cirque de la Symphonie are $23 to $67 (plus applicable taxes and fees) and children’s tickets (age 5 to 13) are only $10 (plus applicable taxes and fees). The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1884 as The Hamilton Orchestral Society and grew to become one of Canada’s major professional orchestras.
