In response to the extension of Ontario’s stay-at-home order until at least June 2, and after careful deliberation, the board of directors and leadership of the HPO have made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining online concerts of the 20-21 Season.
Ticket holders for online concerts have received detailed information via email regarding next steps. For more, visit our 20-21 Season Updates page.
Music Director Gemma New conducts works driven by movement. Paul Frehner’s Voluptuous Panic sets visceral excitement to musical form while Kelly-Marie Murphy’s Dragon Unfolding portrays the drama of an origami dragon rising and taking flight. Luis Ramirez’s new work evokes an Aztec deity emerging from an ancient temple. The flow of water over Webster’s Falls inspires Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s Downstream, while Jordan Pal’s On the Double offers a bright and heroic end to the evening. This concert is part of the Intimate & Immersive series, which is specially curated by Music Director Gemma New to highlight fresh and exciting works by living composers.
