FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HAMILTON, ON – On September 21 at 7:30pm at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place), the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra presents Radiant Ravel. Music Director Gemma New returns for her fifth season conducting a beautiful and vibrant program celebrating the natural beauty of our region.

This opening night celebration includes the world premiere of HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s original piece The Mermaid and the Fisherman, featuring Principal Trumpet Michael Fedyshyn and Soprano Stacie Dunlop as soloists.

Dvořák’s Carnival Overture sets a bright and bustling scene which will transport audiences to the centre of a vibrant festival reminiscent of Hamilton’s many community celebrations. HPO Principal Flute Leslie Newman will delight audiences with Debussy’s Syrinx while Sibelius’ Luonnotar reminds listeners of the power and complexity of the ocean. We round out the performance with Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, a stunning work inspiring imagery of sacred natural spaces.

On this very special evening, the HPO is honoured to partner with The Hamilton Naturalists’ Club in celebration of their 100 year history of promoting and conserving the study and appreciation of natural spaces and wildlife in the Hamilton community.
