HAMILTON, ON – With further restrictions on gathering mandated by Ontario’s provincial emergency and stay-at-home order, the recording and broadcast of the online concert Vivaldi’s Four Seasons has been postponed.  A provincial emergency was declared on January 13, 2021 and continues through February 19, 2021. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was scheduled to premiere online on February 20, 2021 with concert recording taking place February 11-13, 2021. The online music appreciation lecture Talk and Tea: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the online Daytime Student Concert: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons have also been postponed. These events were scheduled for online broadcast on February 18, 2021 and February 24, 2021, respectively. This announcement follows the postponement of January’s online concert, A New Year’s Celebration. The new premiere dates of all postponed events will be announced when the provincial emergency is lifted.

At this time, online concerts from March through June will proceed as planned and staff will continue to monitor federal, provincial and municipal health and safety recommendations. Concerts in the 20-21 Season may be rescheduled, but no concerts will be cancelled. All online concerts will be available for 30 days following their premiere date, even if rescheduled.

The HPO will continue to share free performances, interviews, talks and participatory events through online channels. In the coming days, the HPO will release a series of performances by HPO musicians including solo, duo and trio works recorded from the musicians’ homes. Each musician has selected the repertoire to share, and individual parts of duo and trio performances recorded in isolation will be edited together. Participating musicians will be compensated for their performances.

As of January 11, three of the HPO’s Fall concerts are reactivated on the orchestra’s online platform and are available to view until January 31, 2021 at 11:59 EST. These concerts include September’s Joyful Mozart, October’s Whimsical Woodwinds and November’s Reflections from Russia. For those who have previously purchased these concerts, the videos will automatically appear on their account. Each concert is also available for purchase until January 31 at 6pm EST.
