HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) is thrilled to announce a new and different way to experience the HPO this season. On Wednesday, May 17 at 7:30pm at The Studio (FirstOntario Concert Hall, 1 Summers Lane). Music Director Gemma New introduces audiences to an interactive orchestral experience with the experimental new concert experience, HPO Live: Intimate & Immersive. The event blends the emotion of HPO musicians in a moving program with a stimulating visual and light display to enhance the entire experience.

“The event is designed for an audience that doesn’t necessarily know a lot about the music, but are open to being presented with information that brings them to a greater appreciation of the music,” says Music Director Gemma New of the new concert format. “It combines music, values and dialogue – the visuals support the mood, the music and the surroundings, and the dialogue offers insight into the character of each piece. We want the audience to feel they have heard a variety of styles and music ensembles over the evening.”

HPO Live opens with a set by local band and former HPO Indie Series collaborator Illitry. Headed by Hamilton Arts Award winner Troy Withrow, Illitry’s style of ambient and electronic music fit well with the experimental and immersive mood of the evening.

Audiences find themselves immersed in the music through engaging visuals and dialogue while experiencing the music close-up in non-traditional concert seating scattered throughout The Studio Theatre.

Supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, this interactive concert is one of two events scheduled for 2017, and gives new audiences an opportunity to experience the HPO in a unique, casual environment. Concertgoers can mingle, enjoy a drink and speak with the Conductor and musicians throughout the evening at this unique event that brings the orchestral experience to a new audience.
