HAMILTON, ON – Following Ontario’s recently-lifted province-wide shutdown, changes have been made to remaining concerts and events in the HPO’s 20-21 Season. Given the current health regulations and restrictions, two Mainstage concerts are reprogramed and several online premiere dates are rescheduled. These alterations allow the HPO to offer the same number of Mainstage concerts in the 20-21 Season as originally planned and provide a safe work environment for our musicians and staff.

The concert A New Year’s Celebration is rescheduled to premiere March 27, 2021 at 7:30pm EST with no changes to musicians or repertoire featured. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is replaced by The Joy of Beethoven, which premieres April 10, 2021 at 7:30pm EST. This concert now features string quartet, woodwind quintet and brass quintet.

Beethoven’s Eighth is rescheduled to premiere May 22, 2021 at 7:30pm EST. This update is being made to safely accommodate the size of the orchestra with no changes to the repertoire or featured musicians. The concert Postcards from Buenos Aires is replaced with Haydn & Mendelssohn, which premieres May 8, 2021 at 7:30pm EST. This change has been made to safely feature a smaller orchestra.

Mozart & Strauss is renamed Mozart & Prokofiev and rescheduled to premiere June 10, 2021 at 7:30pm EST with a slight adjustment to the program and new title reflecting the updated repertoire. R. Strauss’ Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme is changed to Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony No. 1 in D Major, Op. 25.

There are no changes to Intimate & Immersive: Earthshine (scheduled to premiere June 16, 2021 at 7:30pm EST) and Intimate & Immersive: Dragon Unfolding (scheduled to premiere June 30, 2021 at 7:30pm EST).

All concerts are available to watch on-demand for 30 days following the premiere date and include an Inside the Music: Pre-concert Talk hosted by Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte.

The 20-21 Season Talk and Tea Series premiere dates have been adjusted to accompany the associated concert date changes outlined above. Talk and Tea videos, hosted by Abigail Richardson-Schulte, will also be available to view 30 days following the premiere date. The Talk and Teas for Intimate & Immersive: Earthshine and Intimate & Immersive: Dragon Unfolding have merged into one event. Those who hold tickets for both talks will now receive Talk and Tea: A New Year’s Celebration.
