FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We celebrate love and the magic of orchestral storytelling this month with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade on our Mainstage and several events in the community.
HAMILTON, ON – Our HPO Minis series returns February 5 with a Woodwind Trio performance at the Art Gallery of Burlington featuring Principal Flute Leslie Newman, Principal Clarinet Dominic Desautels and Bassoonist Melanie Eyers. This intimate performance is hosted by our Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte and features an introduction to the gallery’s current exhibits by Art Gallery of Burlington Senior Curator Suzanne Carte.
On February 8, the HPO accompanies Steven Page at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre in a concert featuring a selection of Barenaked Ladies hits and Page’s solo work, conducted by Isaac Page.
HPO Principal Trombone David Pell performs at the Hamilton Public Library Central Branch on February 14. Abigail Richardson-Schulte will interview Pell about the range and virtuosity of the trombone and a short performance will follow.
Our Seniors’ Talk & Tea returns on February 14 with Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte discussing the career and work of Rimsky-Korsakov, followed by a behind-the-scenes look at an HPO rehearsal. On February 14, Richardson-Schulte also joins HPO horn player Neil Spaulding to lead Musical Moments, a program for people with early-stage dementia to experience orchestral music and education in a comfortable environment. Participants will learn about the music of Rimsky-Korsakov before sitting in on an HPO rehearsal.
Our Mainstage performance Scheherazade on February 15 presents Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestral gem and features Principal Trombone David Pell as soloist for Tomasi’s Trombone Concerto. This concert is conducted by our Music Director Gemma New.
