HAMILTON, ON—The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra proudly congratulates our longstanding board member of over two decades, Dermot Nolan! The Order of Hamilton is presented to individuals across our region whose voluntary contributions have significantly shaped and grown the wellbeing of our community, while enriching the City of Hamilton.
Dermot’s admittance to the Order of Hamilton notes his exceptional volunteerism and civic responsibility. On this honour, HPO Board Chair, Alex Muggah expressed: “The HPO and the Hamilton community have been fortunate to benefit from Dermot’s leadership and dedication to community, and this award is a modest reflection of the significant impact he has made. Institutions, whether large or small, cannot be established or sustained without the support and contributions of individuals like Dermot.”
For over 50 years, Dermot’s commitment to our city’s civic and cultural life has been unparalleled as a community member, philanthropist and HPO board member. Dermot’s impact has left an incredible mark on Hamilton’s legal, educational, musical and cultural fabric. His past accolades include serving as President of the Hamilton Law Association, President of the Hamilton Medical Legal Society, a Trustee of the Hamilton Board of Education and two separate stints as Board Chair of both the Hamilton Public Library and St. Peter’s Hospital. Dermot has served on the HPO Board of Directors for over 20 years. He has also served previously on the Hamilton Health Sciences and Theatre Aquarius boards.
Beyond Dermot’s arts and culture impact, he was an instrumental force in the transformation of the Hamilton Central Post Office into the John Sopinka Court House. In 2008, Dermot and several other notable Hamilton attorneys founded the Lawyer’s Legacy for Children, a fund that supports the health and welfare of children and young people in partnership with the Hamilton Community Foundation.
“The Order of Hamilton is a profound honour that reflects the spirit of service, dedication, and leadership that defines our great city. It is important that we recognize and celebrate Hamiltonians who contribute so meaningfully to building community and improving the lives of our residents, which is precisely what the Order of Hamilton sets out to do.” said Hamilton Mayor, Andrea Horwath.
Congratulations, Dermot!
