HAMILTON, ON— The Hamilton Philharmonic is excited to celebrate 140 years of bringing orchestral music to our city and surrounding communities this Saturday September 21. Guests will be mesmerized with new Music Director James S. Kahane as he leads the orchestra in our first concert of this season, Kahane Conducts Grieg and Sibelius. The evening includes a guest performance by JUNO Award-winning pianist Philip Chiu, who will deliver the thunderous passion of Grieg’s Piano Concerto.

James Kahane will also lead the orchestra in this season’s HPO Musician’s Choice, Sibelius’ Second Symphony, a musical embodiment of hope and the resilience of the human spirit. Plus, HPO Composer in Residence Abigail Richardson Schulte debuts the WORLD PREMIERE of her piece, Team Orchestra. Tickets for this concert are available at HPO.org.

This season marks a remarkable chapter of music making in the Hamilton community, which is why your HPO has a dynamic set of performances for our 140th celebration. Classical enthusiasts will love fall concerts like Feher Conducts Brahms on November 9 featuring guest conductor Andrei Feher and mezzo-soprano Rebecca Cuddy, or Beethoven’s Seventh with guest conductor-soloist James Sommerville in early 2025.

Champions of the contemporary will be blown away this season with concerts like Music of the Movies: A Tribute to John Williams on October 19 and HPO Performs the Music of James Bond February 8, 2025. We also welcome audiences to discover our holiday concerts like Handel’s Messiah, performed for the first time on the Mountain — and Home for the Holidays featuring guest conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, your Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Hamilton Children’s Choir.

You may have seen your HPO in the community this summer at family favourite events like Festival of Friends, taking centre field to perform the national anthem for the Hamilton Ti-Cats or on stage at Supercrawl. We are delighted to announce that we will be back in the community for FreshUP at The Cotton Factory this October 9 with LTtheMonk.

These are just a few, but not all of the exciting offerings this season! We hope to see you in the concert hall for another year of music.
