HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra takes the stage with Collegium Musicale at The Cotton Factory for an evening of contemporary Estonian choral repertoire on Wednesday, June 1 at 8pm. Collegium Musicale is an Estonian choir emerging as the leading authority voicing the works of the country’s contemporary classical composers. Estonian-Canadian pianist Erik Kreem, a rising star and student at the University of Toronto, joins the HPO and Collegium Musical for this performance.
This concert highlights two generations of Estonian composers pushing the boundaries of choral repertoire, represented by Arvo Pärt (1935-) and Erkki-Sven Tüür (1959-). Pärt was the most performed living composer in the world from 2011 to 2018, while Tüür is considered among the most original and influential of his generation thanks to his musical roots in progressive rock.
HPO with Collegium Musicale is organized by Estonian Music Week (EMW) whose mission is to create platforms and spaces for collaboration between Estonian and Canadian artists and showcasing the diversity of Estonian art. The EMW’s choral events are accompanied by the Odesa Photo Days festival’s exhibit Ukrainian Frontline Photography, on display at the Cotton Factory throughout May and June.
