HAMILTON, ON – Premiering January 23, A New Year’s Celebration features the Woodwind Quintet and String Quintet with a cheerful celebration to ring in the New Year. This one-hour performance is recorded at McMaster University’s L.R. Wilson Hall and produced in collaboration with our media partners at Hamilton-based Banko Media.

Members of the HPO Woodwind Quintet Vivian Minden, Flute; Nancy Nelson, Oboe; Michelle Verheul, Clarinet; Melanie Eyers, Bassoon; and Neil Spaulding, Horn, perform favourites from the Woodwind Quintet repertoire by Ibert, Tchaikovsky, Rameau and Canadian composer and conductor William Rowson. Members of the HPO String Quintet Lyssa Pelton, Violin; Philip Sarabura, Violin; Brandon Chui, Viola; Laura Jones, Principal Cello; and Robert Wolanski, Principal Bass, perform Dvorak’s String Quintet No. 2. HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte hosts an Inside the Music: Pre-Concert Talk featuring several musicians in candid conversation about the music.

A New Year’s Celebration is available to view on the HPO’s online concert platform Viola for 30 days beginning January 23 at 7:30pm. A New Year’s Celebration access can be purchased as a single broadcast or as part of a Gift of Music or Flex Five subscription package. Ticket purchasers will also have access to the the Inside the Music: Pre-Concert Talk hosted by Abigail Richardson-Schulte beginning Friday, January 22 at 7:30pm.
