HPO closes the 18-19 Season with an 80-piece orchestra. Music Director Gemma New leads listeners on a journey of discovery with Mahler’s Fifth, and a closer look at music making at Intimate & Immersive’s In the Groove.
HAMILTON, ON – On Friday, May 3, HPO’s Horn Duo, Principal French Horn Jessie Brooks and French Horn player Neil Spaulding perform a free lunchtime concert at the Hamilton Public Library, Central branch.
On Saturday, May 4, HPO’s Woodwind Trio performs a free, public springtime concert at CF Lime Ridge Mall.
On Friday, May 10, Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte hosts this season’s last edition of Seniors’ Talk and Tea. This insightful talk and musical demonstration explores the music on May’s mainstage, Mahler’s Fifth. Patrons enjoy coffee, tea, treats and special access to HPO’s rehearsal in the Great Hall.
On Saturday, May 11, Music Director Gemma New leads the HPO in a powerful evening of music on the mainstage. Mahler’s Fifth explores the distinctive sound worlds of Gustav Mahler and Canadian composer Claude Vivier. From delicate expressions of love to soaring moments of triumph, Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 makes for a transformational experience.
On Thursday, May 23, the HPO presents Intimate & Immersive: In the Grove. Led by Music Director Gemma New, this multidisciplinary experience features art installations by HAVN (Hamilton Audio-Visual Node). Inspired by the thrill of amusement park rides, parades and city life, the pieces on this concert find surprising grooves in the off beats.
On Monday, May 27, HPO’s Woodwind Trio performs a free concert for seniors in Dundas. This concert takes place at the Hamilton Public Library, Dundas branch, and is part of our Seniors’ Symphony Experience, sponsored by Dougher Fund at the Hamilton Community Foundation
On Friday, May 31, HPO’s Violin Duo, Violinists Lyssa Pelton and Elizabeth Loewen Andrews, perform a free lunchtime concert at the Hamilton Public Library, Central branch.
