HPO gets into the holiday spirit with bright and festive brass ensemble performances in the community and a musical hockey match on stage for Home for the Holidays: The Hockey Sweater!
Hamilton, ON – On Saturday, December 1, HPO’s Brass Octet performs a FREE holiday concert for the community at CF Lime Ridge.
On Friday, December 7, HPO ‘s Brass Quintet heads to Hamilton Public Library, Central branch, for the annual holiday concert where everyone is welcome to sit back and enjoy festive favourites with friends and family.
On Wednesday, December 12, HPO’s Brass Quintet performs their holiday concert for our friends in Burlington at Burlington Public Library, Central branch.
On Friday, December 14, the Seniors’ Talk and Tea series presents The Hockey Sweater. This engaging talk and piano demonstration features Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte discussing her musical score The Hockey Sweater, written to accompany Roch Carrier’s Canadian Classic children’s book by the same name.
On Friday, December 14, HPO hosts a student concert in the great hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall for elementary school students in Hamilton. This sold out concert features acclaimed author Roch Carrier reading from his Canadian classic, The Hockey Sweater and Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s musical score The Hockey Sweater. This special concert presentation allows students to explore Canadian literature along with the immersive sound of full orchestra to demonstrate music’s ability to bring storytelling to life.
On Saturday, December 15, Music Director Gemma New, Abigail Richardson-Schulte and Roch Carrier come together to deliver a joyful narration of Carrier’s classic The Hockey Sweater set vividly to music by Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte. Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra joins HPO musicians as guest artists for this heartwarming holiday concert.
