HPO’s 18-19 Season kicks off with a passionate and powerful opening night concert conducted by Music Director Gemma New, featuring guest cellist Cameron Crozman, and a tenth annual performance at Supercrawl with HPO musicians and local band The Altobeelays.
HAMILTON, ON – On Thursday, September 6 HPO continues its Community Collaboration with the Burlington Public Library. This Free event features Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte leading an engaging talk about the music and life of Johannes Brahms. Abigail plays piano to demonstrate musical style and form.
On Wednesday, September 12, the HPO partners with the Art Gallery of Hamilton to host an insightful talk, tour and performance. The Outsider as Artist: Exploring the Worlds of Maier and Brahms is a guided tour of Vivian Maier: Street Photography following by Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s talk and piano demonstration on Johannes Brahms’ life from growing up by the docks of Hamburg to the great concert halls of the world.
On Friday, September 14 the Seniors’ Talk and Tea series presents Brahms’ World. In this educational and engaging event guests enjoy a late morning tea and treat, discover the stories behind the composers on the mainstage, and go behind-the-scenes to an HPO rehearsal in the Great Hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Hosted by HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte.
On Saturday, September 15 Music Director Gemma New kicks off the 18-19 Mainstage Season at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) with Gemma Conducts Brahms. Canadian cellist Cameron Crozman returns to Hamilton in a performance of Elgar’s Cello Concerto while works by Beethoven and Brahms round out the program.
On Sunday, September 16 HPO heads to Supercrawl for a tenth annual performance. The Altobeelays, a Hamilton-based funk-rock and hip hop band, accompany musicians of the HPO. This performance follows the highly successful HPO Indie Series collaboration last season. Program includes innovative music that pushes traditional boundaries.
