With 5 teams having made the NHL Playoffs this season, the celebration of HPO Composer-in-Resident Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s very popular music for the classic Canadian story, The Hockey Sweater by Roch Carrier, could not be better timed. The piece is the country’s first triple co-commission by the TSO, National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Now 5 years old, The Hockey Sweater having been seen by nearly sixty thousand audience members and been performed by most orchestras across Canada (40 times during the 16-17 season alone!). This energetic and unique composition features the conductor in a referee jersey while a hockey games takes place on stage. Abigail really pushed the boundaries and created a piece that will be as treasured as the original story for years to come.
