The HPO’s 16-17 Season continues with a special literary and musical event featuring 2016 Governor General’s Literary Award-winning author Madeleine Thien, free holiday performances by the HPO Brass Quintet and the annual Home for the Holidays concert at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place).

HAMILTON, ON – In partnership with Bryan Prince Bookseller, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) is thrilled to announce a special literary and musical event on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30PM. Featuring 2016 Scotiabank Giller Prize Award-winning author Madeleine Thien, this unique evening combines readings from Thien’s novel, Do Not Say We Have Nothing, and music by the HPO String Quartet. Audience members will experience the rich musicality of Thien’s powerful storytelling and live performances of works by Bach, Shostakovich and Prokofiev.

This literary performance brings one of Canada’s top novelists to Hamilton for a special evening of words and music, offering a multi-disciplinary celebration of Canadian culture. Bryan Prince Bookseller is delighted to partner with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra for this exciting event to highlight the beautiful ways in which literature and music intertwine to enrich our lives.

Then, Hamiltonians can get into the holiday spirit with free performances by the HPO Brass Quintet. Enjoy your favourite holiday tunes at the Hamilton Public Library – Central Library on Friday, December 9 at 12PM , at Limeridge Mall on Monday, December 12 at 5PM and at the Burlington Public Library – Central Branch on Monday December 12 at 7PM.

On Saturday, December 17 at 7:30pm, the annual Home for the Holidays concert returns. Conducted by Music Director Gemma New, and featuring guest vocalists Bud Roach and Denise Pelley, this Hamilton tradition brings the seasonal classics you know and love to FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Enjoy favourites like Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite and Berlin’s White Christmas alongside Vince Guaraldi’s famous jazz-inflected tunes from the holiday treat A Charlie Brown Christmas, based on the Peanuts comic strip.
