Work alongside the professional musicians of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra this summer in the HPO’s first intensive boot camp for ambitious young orchestral musicians. Experience the excitement of working on great music with fellow young musicians in this three-day camp at Mohawk College’s Fennell Campus. We have filled all of the cello, flute, bassoon, trumpet and trombone positions but there is still space available for violin, viola, clarinet, oboe, double bass, clarinet and horns. Work with Music Director Gemma New Learn from our region’s greatest professional musicians in this fun and challenging daytime program, as we build toward a final orchestra showcase for friends and family. In addition to sectional rehearsals with HPO principal musicians, Music Director Gemma New works with young musicians on electrifying repertoire throughout this intensive program, increasing their level of musicianship in this fun and safe learning environment. HPO Coaches Michael Fedyshyn, Principal Trumpet Leslie Newman, Principal Flute Marsha Moffitt, Cello Brandon Chui, Viola Bethany Bergman, Principal Second Violin Audition Procedure A formal audition is not required to participate in the Young Musicians’ Bootcamp. However, a mock audition will take place during the bootcamp as part of each musician’s development. Musicians should be required to present a scale and a three-minute excerpt of their choice to a panel of HPO coaches the morning of August 22. Repertoire Boot Camp repertoire will include selections from Beethoven’s Symphony No.5, Brahms’ Hungarian Rhapsody No.5, Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Schubert’s Symphony No.8 (Unfinished Symphony). Repertoire is subject to change based on number of registrants and instrumentation. Final repertoire selections for the orchestra will be emailed to registrants in late July. Tickets to the HPO Following the completion of camp, all participating young musicians are invited to get together again in September to see Music Director Gemma New and the musicians of the HPO perform Russian Celebrations at FirstOntario Concert Hall on Saturday, September 23. Each participating young musician will receive two complimentary tickets to this HPO mainstage concert as part of their camp registration.
