October 2016 at the HPO Posted on September 20, 2016 The HPO’s 16-17 Season continues this fall with a FREE Gallery Series performance, an evening of Spanish flair at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) and a Halloween concert for the entire family! HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) launches the 16-17 Gallery Series on Wednesday, October 5. Earls Court Gallery hosts the HPO String Quartet for a FREE, 60-minute performance in their main gallery space. Guests are invited to meet the musicians at a reception following the performance. On Friday, October 14 the Seniors’ Talk and Tea series presents The Music of Spain. In this fun, educational and engaging event guests enjoy a late morning tea and treat while learning about the life and music of Spanish composers like Georges Bizet and Manuel de Falla. Then, go behind-the-scenes with an HPO rehearsal in the Great Hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Hosted by HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte. On Saturday, October 15, let the HPO whisk you away to Spain in a concert of fiery melodies by Bizet, Rodrigo, Marquez and de Falla. Spanish Fire features amazing soloists including HPO Principal Flute Leslie Newman, Canadian classical guitarist Jeffrey McFadden, mezzo-soprano Lauren Segal and flamenco dancers from the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company. Enjoy a spooktacular afternoon at the Marz Homes Family Concert on Sunday, October 30. Bring the entire family for a one-hour concert that includes fun and family-friendly Halloween music like Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre and Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Give your costumes an early debut and join HPO musicians as they dress up and compete for best costume.
