The new year takes flight with acrobatics and aerialists as the HPO welcomes Cirque de la Symphonie to the Great Hall this month. 

HAMILTON, ON – On Saturday, January 20 Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser returns to the Great Hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) to lead the magical pairing of Cirque and the beauty of the HPO in a one-of-a-kind concert experience. Cirque Goes to the Cinema is an exciting adaptation of artistic performances widely seen in theatres and arenas. Aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers and strongmen join the HPO as they perform music from James BondMission ImpossibleJurassic ParkRaiders of the Lost ArkPirates of the Caribbean and more.

On Wednesday, January 24 the Gallery Series heads to the Art Gallery of Burlington for a free 60-minute chamber concert hosted by Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte, HPO’s String Quartet and AGB’s Chief Curator, Denis Longchamps. The evening starts will a talk about the current exhibit, Holding by a Thread. Patrons are invited to stay for a reception afterwards to meet the curator and musicians.

On Friday, January 26 at the Studio at FirstOntario Concert Hall three-time Juno Award winning Canadian musician Tom Wilson teams up with the HPO for a special one-night-only, multi-disciplinary literary and musical event. In conjunction with the release of his memoir, Beautiful Scars, Tom uses words and music to tell the story of his search for identity, and of a family history of carefully guarded secrets and profound acts of forgiveness. Featuring original music by Tom along with works by history’s greatest musical minds, Tom Wilson and the HPO present a moving and at times hysterically funny night of inspirational art fit to make Hamilton proud of its musical heritage.
