FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra presents the final installment of the Indie Series for the 17-18 Season on April 27, 2018 at 7:30pm. This performance in collaboration with local band Twin Within takes place at The Music Hall, formerly New Vision United Church (24 Main St. W) and also features the album release of Live-Off-The-Floor at Hamilton Place.

Twin Within comprises Steve McKay and Alex Samaras. Following in the tradition of The Beach Boys and Simon and Garfunkel, Steve and Alex’s voices blend seamlessly with a natural affinity. “For my whole life, making music has been all about trying to bridge the gap between my dive-bar pals and the gala crowd,” says Steve. Their debut album, Horizontal Lines, does just that, bridging genres and bringing a sound that is entirely their own.

Twin Within first partnered with the HPO in 2015, working with composer and Indie Series arranger Christien Ledroit to reimagine the entirety of their album Horizontal Lines with an orchestral sound world. “It made sense,” says Steve. “Horizontal Lines had already made some steps to the classical world with the excellent contributions of Kirk Starkey (cello) and Sara Traficante (flute), and we had tried our hand at rearranging for a piano trio.” According to Steve, the resulting product sounds at times like “something out of the Harry Potter soundtrack, other times it’s straight-up Schumann.”

Twin Within and the HPO are thrilled to present this project years in the making to the public. Steve says of the arrangements, “I have never heard an orchestra groove like this in my life.” The evening will bring Twin Within’s unique sound and orchestral music together in an unforgettable union. This concert is also the album launch for this collaboration, titled Live-Off-The-Floor at Hamilton Place and released as a co-production of Hidden Pony Records and the Canadian Music Centre’s label, Centrediscs. The release will be available digitally on CD and as a limited edition 12” vinyl release.

Supported by TD, the Indie Series gives Hamiltonians the opportunity to experience HPO musicians perform with local emerging bands, in a hybrid concert experience that features new and familiar works, blending the classical and contemporary genres. This program features innovative music that pushes traditional boundaries and connects with new audiences to introduce more people to Hamilton’s thriving music scene.
