Young Musicians’ Boot Camp
Schedule of Activities

9 – 10am
Mock Auditions

Participating young musicians participate in a mock audition for a panel composed of the HPO orchestral coaches. This is a learning opportunity simulating a school or orchestral audition within a safe and friendly environment. The experience will provide performance experience and contribute to each participant’s musical development. Participants should prepare to perform a scale and three-minute excerpt of their choice.

Sectionals with HPO Musicians

During this breakout session, participants will have the opportunity to work in small groups with an HPO coach. Participants playing the same instrument will be coached together, allowing the students to focus on the techniques and challenges specific to their instrument. This is a unique chance to work directly with professional musicians of the HPO.

Lunch and Team Building Workshop

Participants can enjoy a break and get to know one another during the lunch period. Following lunch, the group will collaborate in a fun and engaging music-making activity intended to strengthen relationships and improve musicianship skills.

Under the baton of HPO Music Director Gemma New, participants will rehearse exciting pieces to be performed in the final workshop showcase.
