  • On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour and celebrate the culture of our local Indigenous communities and reflect on historical and contemporary experiences of Indigenous People on this land and around the world. If you're in Hamilton or nearby, there are so many ways to engage and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day through community, art, music, food and more!

Our friends at The Westdale Cinema present an evening of music, dance, culture, and film celebrating the Indigenous community, hosted by Cher Obediah and featuring James Wilson, Spirit Vision Drum & Dancers and The Mohawk Singers. Register for this free event at thewestdale.ca

Visit the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford between 11am-4pm for performances, interactive activities, craft and food vendors and the 50th Annual Juried Exhibition, a milestone marking fifty years of showcasing exceptional Indigenous artwork. Learn more at woodlandculturalcentre.ca

We are also looking back on our performance of The Spirit Horse Returns. A captivating orchestral concert production that tells the powerful stories and legends of the Ojibwe Horses through orchestral music and traditional North American Indigenous teachings and visual art.

The concert is a collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous co-creators, including Anishinaabe artist and Ojibwe Horse breed expert, Rhonda Snow, songwriter Jodi Contin (Wasauksing First Nation), composers Kevin Lau (first-generation Canadian) and Andrew Balfour (of Cree descent), and writer and performer Ken MacDonald (eleventh-generation settler).
